About Franco Anselmi
Exhibition 17 - 28 February 2005
The stories told in Anselmi’s paintings invite the viewer to feel at home in his magical reflection of another dimension. Inspiration for the work is drawn from many sources. The rich tapestry of a Byzantine colour scheme is adapted in the somewhat icon-like works of his beautiful one eyed women. These mysterious figures reciprocally shade and illuminate each other as they view the world from their own perspective, seeing only what they wish to see.
It wasn’t until 1994 that Anselmi began painting full time. Prior to that he had been a teacher with degrees in languages and sociology from the University of Urbino. Always involved in the art world he gradually developed a unique style which he describes as ‘futurism meets fresco.’
Animals feature largely in his works, particularly horses which Anselmi regards as symbols of restlessness and vitality. The nocturnal owl, the wisest of birds is the only creature portrayed with two eyes indicative of a balanced view of the world.
Anselmi is represented by galleries throughout Europe in Germany, Austria and Turkey. He exhibits at major art fairs such as Fiere d’Art, Switzerland and the Padova Art Fair, Italy. In 1996 his work was shown in the United States at ‘Art Americas’ Miami.
